a big shout out to talenti gelato!

Our 2015 ISR entry, Nautilus, used Talenti gelato containers for the emergency buoy and the buoy housing.  We sent photos to Talenti, showing them the unique application for recycled gelato containers. (We also mentioned how much we enjoyed emptying the containers!) Apparently Talenti CEO Steve Gill liked this use of his company's gelato containers. Yesterday, KIDS Chairperson Paola Addamiano-Carts received a huge package in the mail.  Talenti kindly sent Team Nautilus some apparel, stickers and coupons.  Thank you, Talenti, for supporting our team!  We love your gelato!

KIDS visits Phoenix International in Largo, MD

11/11/2015

Today, on Veteran's Day, we were able to go on a GREAT field trip to Phoenix International.  Pete LeHardy was our gracious host.  Everyone was most impressed by the underwater work Phoenix does:  exploration, repair, rescue, search and recovery, etc.  It was great to see the remotely operated vehicles firsthand, to understand their features and design parameters, and to meet some of the engineers who make it all happen.  Thanks, Mr. LeHardy and crew, for such a wonderful opportunity!

There is always more to learn.  Mr. and Mrs. Carts went up to the Stevens Institute of Technology for a tour of the Davidson Laboratory in Hoboken, NJ.  Research Associate Michael DeLorme met them at the model basin, gave a wonderful tour and answered so many questions.  What a delight to talk with someone who can answer your technical questions without batting an eye!

Visit to fusion fiber

Fusion Fiber was a big supporter of our 2015 ISR entry.  Mr. Whitley, the owner, moved his operations out to Breezy Point, MD, just about the time of the races.  Mrs. Carts went to check out the new digs.  Things were looking pretty good, and Dave says that business is good, even better than he expected.  I guess that's what happens when you provide reasonably priced, quality workmanship and are located in a popular boating area.  Best wishes for continued success, Fusion Fiber!

The hull team is about to build the submarine plug, that is, the form over which the hull will be fiberglassed.  Here is the first test of the spindle in action.

Yesterday was the Charles County Public Schools Science Fair.  The sub team had three winners!  Congratulations to Zahra, 3rd Grade, for her first in Physics; Ava, Overall Elementary, for her second place in Environmental Science; and Gavin, Junior Level, for his third place in Energy and Transportation.  Hoorah!
